Who is InScribe Language Consulting?
We are an internationally married husband and wife team, married for 30 years. We met at Tulane Law School (New Orleans, Louisiana) in 1989 and have actively pursued our professional legal careers in Japan and the U.S. Hiroyuki Oota is a constitutional scholar and tenured professor at Doshisha University’s Law Faculty (Kyoto). Lucinda Lohman-Oota is a legal translator, editor and former lawyer, with more than 30 years’ experience working with major law firms in Japan and New York and Asian companies ranging in size from small startups to multinationals.

Lucinda Lohman-Oota
Lucinda, the founder of InScribe Language Consulting, is a legal translator, editor and language educator. Lucinda has a 30-year legal career working at major law firms and companies in Japan and the U.S., including Oh-Ebashi LPC & Partners (Osaka), Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma (Osaka and Tokyo), Panasonic Electric Works (Osaka), and Weil, Gotshal & Manges (New York). Lucinda now focuses on providing language consulting services to Asian law firms and legal departments. Lucinda has also been an adjunct faculty member at Doshisha Law School (Kyoto) for 15 years.
Lucinda has worked closely with Asian companies of all sizes, ranging from small biotech startups to publicly-traded multinationals, and is highly knowledgeable about Japan’s major industry sectors, particularly manufacturing and pharmaceuticals.
Lucinda received a B.A. in History from Bates College (Lewiston, Maine) in 1980 and a J.D. from Tulane Law School (New Orleans, Louisiana) in 1991. She is an active member of the California Bar Association, the Japan Association of Translators, and the European Legal English Teachers Association.
Hiroyuki Ota
Hiroyuki is a Senior Consultant at InScribe Language Consulting and a tenured professor at Doshisha University’s Law Faculty (Kyoto) where he teaches Japanese constitutional law. He has authored numerous articles related to the Japanese constitution and has contributed to several textbooks.
Hiroyuki received a B.A. in Law in 1980 and an M.A. in Law with distinction from Doshisha University in 1985. In addition, he received a Master of Comparative Law from Tulane University Law School (New Orleans, Louisiana) in 1990. Hiroyuki has been a visiting scholar at Harvard Law School and New York University Law School. He maintains active memberships in the American Bar Association, the Japanese American Society for Legal Studies, the Kansai American Public Law Association and is one of only two members of the U.S. Supreme Court Historical Society in Japan.
In their spare time, Lucinda and Hiroyuki enjoy hiking, meditation, ethnic cooking, and travelling in Asia.
